CHRISTMAS SUPPORT
I have to buy a Christmas Gift
For a twelve to fifteen year old,
To be given to a needy family -
There are more this year, I am told.
I'm happy to give to a good cause
Also grateful I am able to do it.
Hard times need only be temporary,
Support will help get them through it.
I live in a wonderful part of the world
But not protected from lay-offs or closures,
Or illnesses or disabilities -
Any one of us could have those exposures.
When communities pull together
To support those who are in need,
By offering something they can afford -
It's much more than just a good deed.
It's "people helping people"
Which should be our number one mission.
When we offer something from ourselves
It's a gratifying submission.
Let's give of ourselves this Christmas
In our own personal way,
And although we remain anonymous,
We'll enhance someone's Christmas Day.
