[spider web]

Spider Web
I'm sitting in the forest
With my back against a tree
The sun's rays are catching spider webs
On every side of me.

I watched an insect approach one
A type of fly, I suspect.
The spider got ready for action
He wanted that fly to connect -

With the fine spun web he had woven,
Suspended as if in mid-air.
I watched and I waited with him
To see if the fly would land there.

He did, he landed right on the web,
But he was too big and too strong,
He actually burrowed through it -
The spider and I had been wrong!

We both felt the fly would be captured
Because a trap had been set,
But the fly had better things to do
His journey is not over yet!

We too can land on a tangled web
That seems silky and attractive,
But we do have the strength to get out of it
If we keep our thoughts positively active.

There will always be things to tempt us,
Silken webs that some other has spun,
Just leave them there shiny and tempting
And find your own place in the sun.
